Through youth-targeted programs, professional umpires donate their time to enrich the lives of at-risk youth, children coping with serious illness and military families. Participants learn the ins and outs of umpiring and enjoy a memorable, once-in-a-lifetime baseball experience. The Pedro Gomez Foundation supports UMPS CARE's newest initiative, the Official Leadership Program, which teaches sportsmanship, leadership and mentorship through the lens of baseball. UMPS CARE also provides on-the-field umpiring mechanics lessons to teens from underserved communities.

The six-week Official Leadership Program began in 2021 in Houston, Philadelphia, Harlem and Washington, D.C. With the help of the Pedro Gomez Foundation, UMPS CARE will expand this program to Phoenix, Arizona.
